The atheist spy
Why did the atheist spy believe that Athiesm was progress and that religion was for the unthinking masses? Why did he target Sampath specifically? Why would people think that religion is only for the unintelegent when there are great minds that believed in God ex. Sir Isaac Newton, Galileo ect?

the atheist spy probably had an empirical thought process. those who think in that fashion, think in fact. if they cannot experience something with their five senses, they refuse to believe that its real. without proof, empirical thinkers do not believe. therefore, since they cannot "physically" experience God, atheists do not recognize His existence. from the atheist spy's point of view, he probably thinks that the followers of Sampath are silly for believing in something "made up" and "unable to be proven".

If the atheist had read the book, would he have thought the birth of Sampath was entirely coincidental to the monsoon? In Mr. Herrmann's class, we talked about how the pharoahs gained their power through flooding of the Nile. Would he even have believed it, seeing as what Sampath had become? What would he have said about Sampath's metamorphisis into a guava?

Religious Drones
There may very well have been people who simply followed a religion because they were told to and continued to follow it without thought. These people could have been following any religion, even one that was retrogressive.

I believe if the atheist spy read Hullabaloo, he would think the birth of Sampath and the monsoon were just a coincidence. However, to a religious person, they might see it as a sign of something great. This reminds me of the star of bethlehem on Jesus' birth. Catholics believe it was a sign that the savior has come. Recently i saw on the news that during the time of jesus' birth the two planets, venus and juipiter, appeared so close together that they looked liked one, causing it to seem like the bright star decribed in the bible when the savior was born. Maybe it was a coincidence, or maybe not. It depends on what we believe in. So of course an atheist would look away from the religious ideas and see the monsoon as merely being a coincidence.

i agree with the idea that the atheist sees it all as coincidence! maybe the connection you made to Jesus' birth would be considered an allusion? or symbolism?
