Re: significance of monkeys?
The monkeys seem to have a huge role in this novel. At first I thought it was quite random to have drunken monkeys and thought there was no relevance between them and the story line. However, in the end I realized that they were what brought the entire story together. In the different lives we all live we each experience our separate chaos. In the lives of the people in this town the monkeys caused constant chaos for everyone. Even though people had different views on how to handle them, they agreed to work together in one plan. The monkeys represent a common chaos that everyone shares. In todays society this might be the economy, because that effects everyone even if you are wealthy. The monkeys effected everyone from Sampath to store owners to women trying only to go to work. This shows how it was a problem that had effects on everyone. This book has a lot to do with over coming failures and hardships. The monkeys were another example of a hardship in the novel.

Was the Plan a good decision?
Was the decision that the community made, to catch the monkeys with nets, a good decision? We are always being told to try our best at everything we do. Did the people who were trying to catch the monkeys really put as much effort into the plans as they should have?
